Anotace
A Creative Approach to Language Teaching (CALT) has been developed with the aim to extend a range of methods that help EAP teachers implement creative strategies to their teaching practice. This paper presents CALT as an integral part of EAP courses and addresses questions of creative situations, processes and barriers. The approach is theoretically embedded in a fusion of concepts of M. Csikszentmihalyi, K. Robinson, J.P.Gilford, E. de Bono and B. Krouwel and based on action research carried out at the Masaryk University Language Centre (Brno, Czech Republic) in 2009-2013. The paper offers a practice-oriented insight into the approach, shares examples of activities successfully implemented in EAP teaching that foster creativity in learners and help them become natural and actively engaged co-authors of their own language learning. It also takes a critical look at ways teachers include creativity in their practice, establish more authentic, flexible and dynamic learning environments and accept roles of facilitators, guides and language or skill expert advisors who share negotiated responsibilities with a learning community-of-practice. The aim of the paper is to discuss how creativity equips EAP teachers with strategies that can help learners solve a wider variety of language and communication challenges in academic and expert situations.
