Anotace

Parfois, l’anthropologie décrit sa tâche, de maniere métaphorique, comme une « traduction de culture ». La littérature anthropologique de ces dernieres décennies comporte des travaux qui traitent spécifiquement du role de la traduction en l’anthropologie et cherchent un enrichissement théorique des approches de l’anthropologie aupres de la traductologie. En effet, il semble évident que les deux disciplines ont beaucoup en commun : l’anthropologue, ainsi que le traducteur, en tant que personnes enracinées dans une culture concrete, interpretent des significations fonctionnant dans une autre culture qui leur est étrangere. La question que je me poserai dans cette contribution sera donc la suivante : le traducteur (d’une langue européenne vers une autre langue européenne) peut-il lui aussi trouver de l’inspiration aupres de l’anthropologie sociale et culturelle ? Comment une sensibilité pour la dichotomie de base qui régit le regard porté par l’anthropologue sur une culture étrangere, a savoir la distinction entre les perspectives émique et étique, peut-elle influencer le traducteur dans sa tache ? Peut-on parler d’une couche anthropologique de l’activité traduisante uniquement dans ces cas ou le traducteur réussit a déduire, du texte qu’il est en train de traduire, des significations plus largement partagées par la société ?

Antropologie svůj úkol někdy metaforicky označuje jako „překlad kultury“. V antropologické literatuře posledních desetiletí se objevují práce, které se zabývají specificky významem překladu v antropologii a hledají teoretické obohacení antropologických přístupů v translatologii. Skutečně, na první pohled se zdá, že oba obory mají mnoho společného: antropolog i překladatel jako osoby ukotvené v konkrétní kultuře interpretují významy fungující v jiné konkrétní kultuře. Otázka, kterou si položím v tomto příspěvku, tedy bude znít: může se i překladatel (z evropského do jiného evropského jazyka) nějak inspirovat v sociální a kulturní antropologii? Jak může překladatelův přístup ovlivnit citlivost k základní dichotomii antropologického uchopení cizí kultury: rozlišení emické a etické perspektivy? Lze hovořit o antropologické vrstvě v překladu pouze tehdy, když se překladateli podaří z textu dedukovat společensky šíře sdílené významy?

Anthropology describes sometimes its task in a metaphoric way as a „translation of culture“. The anthropological literature of recent decades includes works dealing specifically with the role of translation in anthropology and searching for an enrichment of anthropological approaches by theoretical inputs from translatology. Indeed, it seems obvious that both disciplines have a lot in common: both the anthropologist and the translator, as persons anchored in a particular culture, interpret meanings at work in another culture that is alien to them. Thus, in this contribution I will raise the following question: can also a translator (from a European language to another European language) find some inspiration in the social and cultural anthropology? How a sensibility for the basic dichotomy organising the way the anthropologist analyses a foreign culture, i.e. the distinction between the emic and etic perspective, can influence the translator in his task? Can we speak of an anthropological layer of a translation process only in those cases when the translator is able to deduce, from a text he or she is translating, meanings shared more widely by the society?
