H. Strobls Prager Studentenromane werden gewohnheitsmäßig als ‚ein Text‘, und zwar als ein homogen deutschnationaler Text gelesen. Auch eine Studie wie die Vojen Drlíks (2002), die sich zum Ziel setzt, die Ungerechtigkeit der Erinnerung (und der Geschichte) gegenüber Karl Hans Strobl zurechtzurücken und somit wertvolle Arbeit leistet, behauptet, Strobl habe nach dem Erfolg der Vaclavbude (1902) mit Der Schipkapaß und Das Wirtshaus „Zum König Przemysl“ (1913) lediglich themengleiche Fortsetzungen auf demselben national kämpferischen Grundriss hinzugefügt. Der vorliegende Beitrag versucht, die Behandlung der nationalen Frage in Strobls Roman Der Schipkapaß differenzierter zu betrachten, und kommt zu der Schlussfolgerung, dass unter der scheinbar homogen deutschnationalen Oberfläche der Romane zahlreiche Diskontinuitäten in der Konstitution von nationalen Identitätsbildungen freigelegt werden können.
