Abstract
The Czech national research biobanking infrastructure, BBMRI-CZ, was established at Masaryk Memorial Cancer Institute (MMCI) and participating institutions through funding by the Ministry of Education to set up a network of biobanks for cancer research in the Czech Republic. Biobanks collect and store biological material from cancer patients for the long term that would be otherwise lost for future biomedical research. Partner Institutions are 1st Faculty of Medicine, Charles University in Prague, Faculty of Medicine, Charles University in Hradec Králové, Faculty of Medicine, Charles University in Pilsen and Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, Palacký University in Olomouc all of them having specific contract agreements with their respective University Hospitals. Furthermore, Masaryk University joined recently through its two research department, RECETOX and CERIT SC.
