TY - CONF ID - 1504405 AU - Hrůza, Filip - Makýšová, Lucia PY - 2019 TI - Social media usage in local governments – A case study of the Czech Republic KW - social networks KW - regional capitals KW - communication KW - engagement UR - https://www.aspanet.org/conference2019 N2 - The evolution of Web 2.0 technologies has led to social media becoming new tool for public participation, where communities can easily be reached and where stakeholder can express their preferences on a continuous basis. The ongoing development has caused government to be faced with expectations to adapt its communication behaviour to the changing social online interactions. The purpose of using social media differs among local governments, in terms of marketing, information provision, civic participation or accountability. Our focus is to do in depth-analysis of this specific government type of communication, with focus on Czech municipalities. The research describes how local governments in Czech Republic use social media in communication with public. Subsequently we also focus on implications from the perspective of inter-municipal co-operation or whether municipalities determine their SN profile, its content and communication by the boarders (catastral territory) of the municipality. This discussion can set up the conditions for further research and assessment whether social networks could be used on the platform of inter-municipal co-operation. ER -
