Anotace

L’article traite de la figure du Chouan, de l’insurge contrerevolutionnaire de l’Ouest de la France, dans les textes de Victor Hugo, d’Honoré de Balzac et d’autres romanciers du XIXe siecle. Il démontre « l’altérité » du Chouan qui représente le monde de l’Ancien régime disparu. Apres la mise en contexte historique, consacré au role de la Révolution française pour le XIXe siecle et a la différence entre la Guerre de Vendée et la Chouannerie, l’article expose la varieté des formes romanesques du Chouan : barbare, bon sauvage, spectre du passe et homme exemplaire.

Anotace anglicky

The paper deals with the character of “Chouan”, the counter-revolutionary insurgent of the western France in the books of Victor Hugo, Honoré de Balzac and other authors of the 19th century. It shows “alterity” of Chouan who represents the disappeared world of “Ancien régime”. After displaying of the historical context, focused on the role of the French revolution in the 19th century and on the difference between the War in the Vendée and the “Chouannerie”, the paper presents the variability of the fictional forms of Chouan: barbarian, good savage, specter of the past and exemplary man.
