Abstract

In the original language

The quality of governance - the performance of the country´s public administration system is one of core factors determining the success of private sector, the levels of economic growth and well-being of citizen. This article evaluates the performance of the Slovak public administration in the international perspective. The data collected show that Slovakia does not perform well from the point of most of government performance indicators analysed in this text. The existing studies and evaluations suggest that the key factors limiting more visible progress are: politicisation, the very marginal capacity to control corruption; the lack of accountability of politicians and civil servants and the rather limited capacity of citizen to “control” government.
