Der Aufsatz befasst sich mit der Koberschen Album Bibliothek deutscher Originalromane (1846–1861), die im deutschen Sprachraum für ein respektables und konkurrenzfähiges Verlagsunternehmen gehalten wurde, das seine Position auf dem zeitgenössischen Literaturmarkt zu bewahren wusste, während andere, ähnlich angelegte Reihen deutscher Originalromane (Bibliothek Deutscher Originalromane von Otto Wigand in Leipzig, Deutsche Bibliothek. Sammlung auserlesener Originalromane von Carl Meidinger in Frankfurt am Main) nach kurzer Zeit in Konkurs gingen. Kobers Album fasste sowohl deutsch- als auch tschechischsprachige Leser ins Visier, deren Interesse an deutscher Unterhaltungslektüre es zu erwecken suchte, um dadurch die Dominanz von Übersetzungen aus der französischen und englischen Literatur zu eliminieren. Kobers Album- Bibliothek wäre mit der erfolgreichen Cottaschen Volksbibliothek der deutschen Klassiker zu vergleichen, die für Kobers Verlagsstrategie höchstwahrscheinlich als Vorbild galt.

Článek pojednává o Kobrově edici Album Bibliothek deutscher Originalromane (1846–1861), jež platila v německojazyčném kulturním prostoru za konkurenceschopný, respektovaný podnik. Kobrova knižnice se na rozdíl od jiných, podobně koncipovaných, dokázala na trhu udržet, zatímco knižnice O. Wiganda z Lipska či Meidingerova z Frankfurtu nad Mohanem nikoli. Kober měl na mysli zájmy jak českých, tak německých čtenářů a nabízel jim populární četbu v němčině. Příklonem k původní německé produkci vytěsňoval překlady z francouzské a anglické literatury, která ve 40. letech zaplavovala knižní trh s populární literaturou. Užitečné by bylo srovnat Kobrovo Album s Cottovou Volksbibliothek der deutschen Klassiker, jehož nakladatelskou strategií se Kober pravděpodobně inspiroval.

The article is concerned with Kobers edition Album Bibliothek deutscher Originalromane (1846–1861), which established itself in the German speaking area as a distinguished, competitive enterprise that had endured on the literary market unlike other, similarly designed editions of original German-language novels (Bibliothek Deutscher Originalromane by O. Wigand in Leipzig, Deutsche Bibliothek. Sammlung auserlesener Originalromane by Carl Meidinger in Frankfurt am Main) that went gradually out of business. Kobers edition was intended for all German-language readers regardless of their ethnicity, and its purpose was to offer its readership original German-language works instead of the widely spread translations from French or English. Kobers edition drew its inspiration most probably from Cottas Volksbibliothek der deutschen Klassiker, which was making stable business on the market at the same time. A comparison of both of these editions might bring additional, meaningful findings.
