Malnutrition and sedentariness act as an accelerator in the elderly frailty process. DOREMI was developed to engage older people in a healthier lifestyle using serious games and food monitoring. The study evaluated protocol influence on unhealthy behaviors improving dietary habits through remote nutritional coaching and stimulating physical activity through Exergames. 32 older people (65-80 years) living in the UK and Italy. Participants were stimulated to adopt the Mediterranean dietary pattern, by a food diary diet-app, and to perform regular physical activity, by the Exergame app, for 3 months. At the end, users underwent the same test battery. Blood pressure and Rate Pressure Product (RPP) values showed a significant reduction at the end of the trial. For Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB), an improved performance trend was observed for Balance and Walk subtests. A significant decrease in Body Mass Index (BMI) was observed in overweight subjects (BMI >25) after DOREMI intervention. Mini Nutritional Assessment (MNA) score significantly increased after intervention, while the waist and hip circumference significantly decreased. A reduction in glycated Hb was registered (p=0.018) in the UK volunteers. Improvement of healthy behavior by DOREMI system, providing feedback between user and remote coach and increasing user’s motivation, appears potentially effective.
