V originále

Maps are an effective solution to offer geographical information for blind people. The current paper argued that the use of geographical information system (GIS) is an excellent approach to develop maps as the outcomes can be transmitted onto a touch display where an individual selects various keys and settings like colour. European countries (such as the United Kingdom) and the United States of America have utilized modern technology to introduce digitized maps to improve the quality of geographic education provided to blind students. However, regions such as Iraqi Kurdistan are still behind, whereby students having these disorders are still turned away from school as there are no professionals to handle them. Visual problems in this region resulted from war and during Saddam's chemical war in 1988. Modern technology has introduced significant development in the mapping field and acquisition, focusing on the production of maps for automated and printed maps. Amid improved technology, a modern cartographer must be familiar with healthy people and others having different disabilities, such as partially impaired people. The main recommendation is that the Iraqi government and respective agencies in the Iraqi Kurdistan region should ensure that teachers are well-equipped with skills to handle blind students competently. The aim of the manuscript is to discuss the possibilities of innovative GIS approaches to support disabled students in Iraqi Kurdistan.
