Asthma is a chronic airway inflammatory disease that gradually affects not only lungs but also extrapulmonary tissues. Over time asthma can have potential systemic impact on all organ systems, especially the cardiovascular system. That is why the aim of our study was to evaluate functional and structural changes in cardiovascular system in asthmatic and healthy control. Patients and methods We measured asthmatic children (group A: 59 participants) and control group (group C: 57 participants) of the same age. The A group received appropriate treatment (blockers of H1 receptors, corticosteroid or agonist β2 adrenal receptor). All respondents were divided into three age subgroups (12 – 14, 15 – 16, 17 – 18 years old) for reflection age-dependent changes in the cardiovascular system. For each respondent we measured Systolic (SBP) and Diastolic (DBP) blood pressure (Omron, HEM-907-E, Japan). Than with Sphygmocor (AtCor Medical, Australia) and VaSera (Fakuda Denshi, Japan) devices were estimated cardiovascular parameters such as Pulse Wave Velocity (PWV), Cardio Ankle Vascular Index (CAVI), and central Buckberg index (SEVR). We used Statistica 13.5 for statistical analysis of the data. Results No gender differences were found in all evaluated parameters. In all age groups we found significant difference in PWV and SEVR. Conclusions We can conclude that asthma bronchiale and its treatment changed the properties of vessels in children comparing to the healthy group, as well as parameters of cardiac function.
