El artículo estudia el léxico argótico utilizado por contrabandistas y bandoleros en la novela Astucia (1865–1866) de Luis G. Inclán. La historia del léxico argótico en las variedades regionales del espaňol es muy difícil de estudiar, puesto que no es muy frecuente que aparezca en las fuentes que tradicionalmente se han utilizado para la historia de la lengua. La única excepción son los textos literarios que procuran reproducir la oralidad y la espontaneidad comunicativa, pero allí es necesario tomar en consideración que los rasgos del argot suelen estar retratados de modo estereotipado. Por tanto, para su estudio es preciso aplicar unos filtros metodológicos de la pragmática histórica para no incurrir a error de interpretación. El léxico argótico y popular mexicano anterior al siglo XX está muy poco estudiado y el presente estudio procura ayudar a llenar esta laguna de conocimiento en el ámbito.

The article studies the slang vocabulary used by smugglers and bandits in the novel Astucia (1865–1866) by Luis G. Inclán. The evolution of the slang vocabulary in the regional varieties of Spanish is not easy to study. Slang does not usually appear in the sources traditionally used to investigate the history of Spanish. The only exception is literary texts that try to reproduce orality and communicative spontaneity. However, it is necessary to consider that slang is usually portrayed in such sources in a stereotyped way. Therefore we have to apply methodological filters of historical pragmatics and avoid possible interpretation. The slang and popular Mexican vocabulary before the twentieth century are very little studied, and the present study tries to fill this knowledge gap in the field.
