Abstract
In the talk "What does it mean (to write) historical poetics of Czech silent cinema?", I presented my current research project in its methodological points of departure, explained my main research questions, and concerned my periodization of the aesthetic history of Czech pre-studio cinema in three eras. Afterward, I focused on the Czech cinema of 1918 to 1924, which I call the transitional period. Finally, I put my interim findings and conclusions into the context of the international debate on the history of style. The talk was delivered on 17 September 2021 as part of the event "Internationality in Film Heritage" organized by the Pirmoji banga Film Festival in cooperation with the Czech Embassy in Vilnius.
