Esej se zaměřuje na problematiku transdisciplinarity v kulturněvědním výzkumu. Tento přístup, jehož podstatou je kombinování výsledků několika disciplinárně pojatých analýz jednoho konkrétního fenoménu, je promýšlen na příkladu otázky, jaké obsahy mohl nést pohled Madony (obrazu, sochy), jež se nacházela ve středoevropském prostoru 17. a 18. století. Možné odpovědi jsou nabízeny prostřednictvím uměleckohistorické, kulturněhistorické, jazykovědné a prostorové analýzy. Model transdisciplinarity se v nich ukazuje jako funkční, jakkoli nemůže zaručit nové poznání.

The essay addresses the issue of transdisciplinarity in cultural science research. This approach, the essence of which is to combine the results of several discipline-based analyses of one particular phenomenon, is examined on the example of what meanings could be carried by the gaze of a Madonna (image, statue) found in the Central European space in the 17th and 18th centuries. Possible answers are offered through art-historical, cultural-historical, linguistic and spatial analysis. The model of transdisciplinarity is shown to be functional in these studies, even though it cannot guarantee new knowledge.
