TY - CONF ID - 1873949 AU - Švaříček, Roman - Dostálová, Nicol PY - 2022 TI - How do the children with dyslexia read? : An eye-tracking pilot study KW - dyslexia N2 - Dyslexia is a specific learning disorder manifested by reading difficulties such as errors in spelling and decoding words. A large amount of information is presented in the text form. It complicates reading, comprehension and consequently impedes the expansion of vocabulary and its development. It is crucial for children with dyslexia to have an intensive support in learning how to read. However, recent studies show (e.g., Washburn et al., 2011) that teachers have a lack in basic knowledge about teaching pupils with reading disabilities. The main aim of this paper is to present the results of a pilot study that focused on the eye movements of dyslexic readers during loud reading of a short text. Eye movements during reading were recorded using eye-tracking technology. The results of this study can help teachers better understand how children with reading disability work with the text and thus increase teachers' awareness and prepare them for the work with dyslexia children.
