Abstract

Mijn proefschrift getiteld De contrastieve beschrijving van de verzorgde uitspraak van het Nederlands en het Tsjechisch vanuit het perspectief van de Tsjechische spreker van het Nederlands (Kostelecká, 2019) had als doel een vergelijkende beschrijving te geven van de uitspraaksystemen van het Nederlands en het Tsjechisch. Dit deed ik door de zogeheten articulatory settings van beide Europese variëteiten van het Standaardnederlands te vergelijken met het Tsjechisch. De klankinventarissen – de vocaal- en consonantsystemen van de geanalyseerde talen evenals de assimilatieverschillen werden vervolgens onder de loep genomen met als doel de verschillen en overeenkomsten te laten zien. Aan de hand van deze vergelijking werden problematische klanken in het Nederlands voor Tsjechische moedertaalsprekers aangeduid. In een vervolgonderzoek ga ik na hoe de uitspraak van Tsjechische sprekers van het Nederlands door moedertaalsprekers van het Nederlands wordt verstaan en waargenomen. Ik ga na wat ze storend vinden aan het ‘Tsjechische Nederlands’. Ik vraag me af wat als een ‘goede’ en verstaanbare uitspraak wordt beschouwd. Verder focus ik op de klanksystemen en de waarneming van de realisatie van een aantal concrete segmenten. Op het IVN-congres wil ik graag de resultaten presenteren van een lopend onderzoek naar de uitspraak van studenten met A2- en B2-niveau. Tevens ben ik van plan om de attitudes van Nederlandse en Vlaamse moedertaalsprekers tegenover de Tsjechische uitspraak te vergelijken. Ik wil ook graag in kaart brengen welke norm zij hanteren met betrekking tot de evaluatie van 'fouten'. In mijn voorgaand onderzoek heb ik namelijk gezien dat de Vlaamse moedertaalsprekers de neiging hebben om de anderstalige spraak strenger te beoordelen ik wil nagaan of ik deze hypothese kan bevestigen.

Abstract (in English)

My dissertation entitled A Contrastive Description of the Standard Pronunciation of Dutch and Czech from the Perspective of Czech learners of Dutch, (Kostelecká, 2019) aimed to provide a comparative description of the pronunciation systems of Dutch and Czech. I did this by comparing the so-called articulatory settings of both European varieties of Standard Dutch with Czech. The sound inventories - the vocal and consonant systems of the analysed languages as well as the assimilation differences were then scrutinised with the aim of showing the differences and similarities. Based on this comparison, problematic sounds in Dutch for Czech native speakers were identified. In a follow-up study, I will investigate how the pronunciation of Czech speakers of Dutch is understood and perceived by native speakers of Dutch. I explore what they find disturbing about 'Czech Dutch'. I wonder what is considered a 'good' and intelligible pronunciation. Furthermore, I focus on the sound systems and the perception of the realisation of some concrete segments. At the IVN congress, I would like to present the results of an ongoing study on the pronunciation of students with A2 and B2 levels. Also, I plan to compare the attitudes of Dutch and Flemish native speakers towards Czech pronunciation. I would also like to identify what standard they apply with regard to the evaluation of 'errors'. Indeed, in my previous research I have seen that the Flemish native speakers tend to evaluate the foreign-language speech more strictly I want to see if I can confirm this hypothesis.
