Here, we report its first finding for Georgia (South Caucasus). The species has been only rarely reported for the Caucasus so far. It was newly discovered in the glacial valley of the Abudelauri River in the Eastern Greater Caucasus. Rhytidiadelphus subpinnatus was scattered in transitional mire vegetation dominated by Sphagnum girgensohnii and accompanied by vascular plants characteristic of this vegetation such as Carex rostrata, Eriophorum angustifolium, and Swertia iberica.
