Abstract

Andreas Zirkl, Prior des Augustinerklosters in Brünn, war in den 1720er Jahren der bedeutendste Priester der Stadt. Als eine Person mit hohen Karriereambitionen und autoritären und unorthodoxen Verhaltensweisen geriet Zirkl in schwere Konflikte mit den Mitgliedern des Klosters, mit dem Bischof von Olmütz und mit den Oberen des Augustinerordens. All dies geschah in spezifischen sozialen, kulturellen und räumlichen Kontexten, die im Mittelpunkt der Arbeit stehen werden. Ausgangspunkt ist die Annahme eines engen Zusammenhangs zwischen dem Verhalten von Individuen und dem Charakter des Ortes ihrer Tätigkeit. Im Fall von Zirkl können dies die soziale (und räumliche) Struktur der Stadt, die Konkurrenz von Orden und anderen geistlichen Autoritäten, die Regeln der Ordensgemeinschaft, kulturelle Normen oder öffentliche Ereignisse sein, die die Möglichkeit der Selbstdarstellung bieten. Die Gesamtheit dieser Aspekte stellt die Möglichkeiten und Chancen für das Handeln der Menschen innerhalb der Stadtmauern dar.

Abstract (in Czech)

Andreas Zirkl, převor augustiniánského kláštera v Brně, byl nejvýznamnějším knězem ve městě 20. let 17. století. Jako člověk s vysokými kariérními ambicemi a autoritářskými a neortodoxními způsoby chování se Zirkl dostal do vážných konfliktů s členy kláštera, s olomouckým biskupem i s představenými augustiniánského řádu. To vše se odehrávalo ve specifických společenských, kulturních a prostorových souvislostech, na které se příspěvek zaměří. Východiskem je předpoklad úzké souvislosti mezi chováním jednotlivců a charakterem místa jejich působení. V případě Zirkla lze uvažovat o sociální (a prostorové) struktuře města, konkurenci náboženských řádů a jiných duchovních autorit, pravidlech řádového společenství, kulturních normách či veřejných akcích poskytujících možnost sebeprezentace. Soubor těchto aspektů představuje možnosti a příležitosti pro jednání lidí uvnitř městských hradeb.

Abstract (in English)

Andreas Zirkl, prior of the Augustinian monastery in Brno, was the most important priest in the city of 1720s. Being a person with high career ambitions and of authoritarian and unorthodox ways of behavior, Zirkl got into serious conflicts with the members of the monastery, with the bishop of Olomouc and with the superiors of the Augustinian order. All this took place in specific social, cultural and spatial contexts, which will be the main focus of the paper. The starting point is the assumption of a close connection between the behavior of individuals and the character of the place of their activity. In the case of Zirkl, one can consider the social (and spatial) structure of the city, the competition of religious orders and other spiritual authorities, the rules of the order community, cultural norms or public events providing the possibility of self-presentation. The set of these aspects represents the possibilities and opportunities for the actions of people inside the city walls.
