It operates with the enhancement of inelastically scattered light (Raman scattering) on nanostructured plasmonic metal, which might push sensitivity of the measurements down to a single molecule level. Bimetallic nanocomposites are an interesting alternative to traditional metallic substrates, as they combine abilities of two type of metals.
