Abstract

In deze bijdrage en in mijn huidige onderzoek focus ik op de verstaanbaarheid van het Nederlands zoals gesproken door Tsjechische sprekers. Doel is om na te gaan in hoeverre moedertaalsprekers dit “Tsjechisch Nederlands” van A2-, B2- en C1-sprekers verstaan. Het ERK en de beoordelingscriteria van het CNaVT stellen bepaalde eisen aan het niveau van het Nederlands en kunnen gedeeltelijk als uitgangspunt worden toegepast voor de beoordeling van de uitspraakverwerving. In deze bijdrage neem ik de verstaanbaarheid van het “Tsjechisch Nederlands” van A2-sprekers onder de loep. k maak gebruik van een opname van 53 seconden waarin een A2-spreker een tekst voorleest. De opname liet ik door moedertaalsprekers, docenten NT2 en NVT beoordelen op verstaanbaarheid. Ik wilde nagaan hoe deze opname van een doorsnee spreker van het niveau A2 globaal verstaanbaar is. Ik richtte me tevens op de beoordeling van enkele specifieke aspecten, namelijk: de realisatie van de klemtoon, de intonatie, sjwa en enkele afzonderlijke klanken die uit eerder contrastief onderzoek als knelpunten voor Tsjechische moedertaalsprekers naar voren kwamen. Aan de hand van de beoordeling door de moedertaalsprekers inventariseerde ik vervolgens met dit onderzoek de probleempunten in de uitspraak van A2-sprekers.

Abstract (in English)

In this article, and in my current research, I focus on the intelligibility of Dutch as spoken by Czech speakers. The aim is to find out to what extent native speakers understand this “Czech Dutch” of A2, B2 and C1 speakers. The ERK and the assessment criteria of the CNaVT set certain requirements for the level of Dutch and can partly be applied as a starting point for assessing pronunciation acquisition. In this contribution, I examine the intelligibility of the “Czech Dutch” of A2 speakers. I work with a 0:53-second long recording in which an A2 speaker reads a text aloud. I then had native speakers, NT2 teachers and NVT assess the recording for intelligibility. I wanted to find out how this recording of an average A2 speaker is globally intelligible, but I also focused on assessing some specific aspects: the realisation of word accent, intonation, schwa, and the realisation of some individual sounds that earlier contrastive research showed as being problematic for Czech native speakers. Based on the assessment by native speakers, I then used this research to identify problem areas in pronunciation among this level of speakers.
