TY - CHAP ID - 2377199 AU - Klán, Petr - Slanina, Tomáš - Štacko, Peter PY - 2022 TI - Light-activatable H2S donors VL - 1st PB - Wiley CY - Hoboken SN - 9781119799870 KW - Caged release KW - Delivery mechanisms KW - H2S donors KW - Photochemistry KW - Photorelease UR - https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1002/9781119799900.ch14 N2 - The chapter focuses on the release and delivery of hydrogen sulfide (H 2 S) from photoactivatable molecules using light as a biorthogonal trigger. We start with the introduction of photophysical and photochemical concepts related to their design. Standard methods of light delivery to human tissue and factors that limit the applicability of near-infrared irradiation wavelengths, allowing for deep tissue penetration, are subsequently reviewed. The most common methods of delivering light into the living organisms are briefly summarized and compared in the light of their clinical application. We show different mechanistic approaches to light-activated H 2 S release and provide a comprehensive survey of small organic molecules, organometallic complexes, supramolecular materials, and nanocomposites that can be used as H 2 S photodonors. The chapter concludes by highlighting the major challenges and obstacles to fuel future endeavors in the field of light-activated H 2 S donors. ER -
