This is because we are so blinded by the recent manifestation of man that we can no longer remember a time – and it is not so long ago – when the world, its order, and human beings existed, but man did not.” M. Foucault, The Order of Things. Under the title “like a face drawn in the sand at the edge of the sea: vicissitudes of the posthuman forty years after Foucault's death” a conference was held on May 30 and 31. The event was part of the Foucault 40 After network, which included many initiatives around the world to commemorate the thinker 40 years after his death. The conference and workshop were held at the Faculty of Social Studies. The first day featured keynote speakers: Clemens Apprich (University of Applied Arts Vienna) and Olga Goriunova (University of London). During the second day, nine speakers divided into two sessions presented their papers. The discussions were moderate by two respondents, Eva Theunissen (Masaryk University) and Christoph Hubtachke (University of Vienna). The leading theme of the workshop and talks was the impact of Michel Foucault's thought in the current research moving into the debate on posthumanism (more details on the website).
