At a time of substantial and ongoing political change in the 21st century, the relationship between the UK and its allies in Central Europe is an important and developing one. Not only is there an enduring economic partnership and a recognition of shared global challenges, but with Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine the importance of defence co-operation has been given renewed emphasis. There is increased contestation in Central Europe, with challenges of misinformation, competing sources of investment and political instability. In this context, relations with the region have a particularly high priority for the UK. Meanwhile, countries in Central Europe continue to assess their relationship with the UK in the light of Brexit, but also the UK’s increasingly important role in European security, given the growing threat from Russia, and there is particular interest in what impact elections in the UK, Europe and the US might mean for dynamics in the relationship. This event will provide leading experts from the UK and Central Europe with the opportunity to have a free-flowing, private discussion of these issues.
