As populations age, people require solutions that afford self-management of health conditions, e.g. through virtual assistants (VAs). To design for underrepresented groups such as stroke survivors we need to understand their varying needs in the context of their at home post-stroke recovery. For that we can use the persona method to construct abstractions of target users that highlight their pain points, motivations, and goals. However, personas require relevant, easily understandable, and memorable descriptions for designers and stakeholders to empathise with and consider. We created seven stroke personas, evaluated their relevance with clinicians, and extracted design considerations for each of the personas.
