Right identification of the pathogen causing the respective disease as well as availability and diversity of effective resistance resources belong to basic ones. Blumeria graminis f. sp. hordei is an unmistakable causing agent of powdery mildew on barley to which many resistance resources are known. We believe that combination of at least two original and (in the given epidemiological unit) fully effective resistance genes in a variety will sufficiently prolong durability of the resistance. Therefore, localization of new resistance genes in the barley genome and development of molecular markers are further conditions for successful breeding of barley varieties resistant to powdery mildew.
