Abstract
120 ICU patients with hematological malignacies were examined over the period of 7 years; the diagnosis of PCP was established from bronchoalvear lavage in 39 (32.5%). A relationship was found between PCP and the absence of bilateral pulmonary interstitial infiltration. The authors conclude that even without a picture considered typical for PCP, P.carinii can be causal agent of pulmary complications in ICU patients with hematological malignancies.
