The gene encoding CD14 is a positional candidate gene for atopy, as it is localized on chromosome 5q31.1, a region that has been linked to asthma and atopic responses. We investigated relationship among atopic phenotypes and the 1341G/T polymorphism in exon of the CD14 gene in the Czech population. Polymerase chain reaction with RFLP analyses were used to determine the CD14 genotypes in subjects with IgE-mediated allergic diseases (n = 290) and random controls (n = 189). IgE-mediated allergy was recognised by specific IgE or a positive skin prick test to any one or more allergens. The CD14 allele or genotype distributions were similar in patients and control group. However, when atopic patients were subdivided in subjects with positive and those with negative skin prick tests, this polymorphism was significantly associated with a positive reactivity to the mites. T allele of the 1341G/T polymorphism were higher in patients with positive skin prick tests for mites than in patients without reactivity to this antigen (Pcorr<0.01). ER -
