Abstract
Cannabidiol, a nonpsychotropic cannabis constituent, with potential anticonvulsive, antianxiety, antipsychotic, antiemetic, and anti-inflammatory properties (Mechoulam et al., 2002) was tested for its behavioural effects in the mouse model of social defeat using a naturally occurring intra-species social conflict situation. The present study investigated effects of cannabidiol on locomotor behavioural changes in the open field in non-aggressive group-housed male mice which served several times as opponents to aggressive singly-housed mice. The results suggest a potential anxiolytic effect of cannabidiol in mice defeated by an aggressive conspecific partner.
