V originále
The aim of the present work was to elucidate the mechanism of electrolytic deposition of nickel on a paraffin impregnated graphite electrode (PIGE). On the basis of the results obtained by linear and cyclic voltammetry, the elimination voltammetry with linear scan (EVLS) was used for evaluation of investigated processes. The hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) alone was studied in sulphate supporting electrolyte, and the previously suggested mechanism for this process according to Volmer-Heyrovsky was confirmed by EVLS. It was found that Ni2+ concentration and pH affect the polarisation behaviour of PIGE very significantly. The EVLS confirmed the most probable mechanism of nickel deposition as being controlled by slow transfer of the first electron and the formation of NiOH+ as an intermediate particle. Moreover, the EVLS indicated slow reduction of proton preceding the reduction of nickel. The results were complemented by scanning electron microscopy (SEM).
