The aim of work was to examine the possibility of quantitative determination of the niobium, titanium, tantalum and cobalt. Samples were presented for ablation as pressed pellets with and without binder (powdered silver) and as cemented tungsten carbides. Pellets were prepared by pressing of powdered material by means of hydraulic press. Cemented tungsten carbide requires no sample preparation. Several laser and detection systems were used for measurements. The Nd:YAG laser working at basic wavelength 1064 nm and fourth harmonic frequency 266 nm with gated photomultiplier or ICCD detector HORIBA JY was used for determination in pressed pellets and cemented tungsten carbides. The ICCD detector DICAM PRO with Mechelle 7500 spectrometer was used with ArF laser (193 nm) and KrF laser (248 nm). Different types of atmosphere (air, He, Ar) were investigated for analysis. Linear calibration curves were obtained for Nb, Ti, and Ta. Certain optimisation is required for determination cobalt in samples. Different results for pressed pellets with and without a binder are due the presence of powdered silver in samples, which works based on different mechanism of ablation. ER -
