The first step of the sulfur compound oxidation is enzymatic oxidation of thiosulfate to tetrathionate. The enzyme, catalyzing this reaction is thiosulfate dehydrogenase, a periplasmic enzyme with pH optimum 3.0. The basic enzyme characteristics were determined.
