In order to determine whether the overhead of contemporary virtualisation tools is affordable, we measured UDP network throughput in Xen and VServer virtual machine monitors in a real cluster environment and compared it to performance of physical machines. In addition to network performance achievable by a single VM, interactions with another VM (either network or CPU bound) were measured to determine the possibility of several concurrently running VMs. We also compared overheads of IPv4 and IPv6 in a virtualised environment.

Abychom určili, zda režie současných nástrojů pro virtualizaci je přijatelná, měřili jsme propustnost sítě s protokolem UDP v nástrojích Xen a VServer v prostředí produkčního clusteru a porovnali ji s výkonem fyzického stroje. Dále jsme zkoumali výkon dosažitelný jedním virtuálním strojem, interakce více virtuálních strojů (zatížených síťovým provozem a výpočtem náročným na procesor), abychom určili, zda je použitelné na jednom stroji provozovat několik souběžných virtuálních strojů. Porovnali jsme i režii zpracování IPv4 a IPv6 ve virtualizovaném prostředí.
