Abstract

In der Monographie ist die praktische Funktion (function), die gesellschaftliche Bedeutung (significance) und der symbolische Sinn (meaning) des frühmittelalterlichen Zentralortes in Pohansko bei Břeclavi beschrieben. Der bisherige Forschungsstand Pohanskos bei Břeclav ist hier behandelt. Die gesamtgesellschaftlichen Prozesse, die zur Entstehung, Entwicklung sowie dem Untergang des frühmittelalterlichen Zentrums in Pohansko führten, sind erklärt. Der Fundort ist als munitio, emporium und palatium der großmährischen Fürsten interpretiert. Das Zentrum in Pohansko spielte wichtige Rolle bei dem Mobilisieren der wirtschaftlichen Ressourcen und bei der Kontrolle des Territoriums. Seine Entstehung hängt mit dem sog. cyclical chiefdom zusammen. In der Arbeit sind GIS, multivariate statistische Analyse (PCA) und Systemtheorie verwendet

Monografie je věnována praktické funkci, společenskému významu a symbolickému smyslu raně středověkého centra na Pohansku u Břeclavi. Je zde charakterizována pramenná báze a stav poznání této lokality. Objevy učiněné na Pohansku jsou uvedeny do širších souvislostí a komparovány s podobnými lokalitami z jiných částí raně středověké Evropy. Lokalita je interpretována jako munitio, emporium i palatium moravských raně středověkých panovníků. Centrum hrálo důležitou roli v procesu mobilizace bohatství a při kontrole teritoria. Jeho vznik souvisí s tzv. cyclical chiefdom. Jako metodologické nástroje jsou využity GIS, vícerozměrové statistické analýzy (PCA) a teorie systému.

Abstract (in English)

This monograph considers the function, significance and meaning of the Early Medieval centre at Pohansko near Břeclav. The source base and current state of knowledge regarding the site are characterised. Discoveries made at Pohansko are presented in their broader context, and compared to similar sites elsewhere in Early Medieval Europe. The site is interpreted as a munitio, emporium and palatium of the Moravian Early Medieval rulers. It played an important role in the mobilisation of wealth and in the control of territory. Its origin is related to a so-called cyclical chiefdom. GIS, multivariate statistical analysis (PCA) and system theory are used as the main methodological tools.
