Abstract
Study was carried out in warmest and driest part of Czechia in small brook, which dries up every summer.Aim of study was to assess macroinvertebrate drift(i)before and afterdrought,(ii)in relation to bottom abundances and(iii)in relation to seasonal changes of abiotic parameters.Samples were taken by net(mesh size 0.25mm) 3 hours at same time of day in 3 weeks interval(April-October)in 2005.Abundances of animals were standardized to 1000 m3 of water flowed through net.At same time quantitative samples of macroinvertebrates were taken(bottom area 0.1m2,mesh size 0.25mm).Abundances of drifting macroivertebrates increase with precipitations and highest values were observed in short period of flow return between 2 dry periods.Abundance in drift rapidly decreased 6 days before first drought.Numbers of drifting mayflies positively correspond with their numbers in bottom samples.Their abundances in drift and bottom samples decrease before dry periods and after drought they increased gradually.
