N2 - The goal of the contributions is application of multivariate classification techniques to assessment of business environment of selected 78 regions in European Union. Quality of business environment is significant attribute in the decision making of possible investors about process of establishment new enterprise. Indicators of business environment were obtained from the set of variables of Statistical Office of the European Communities. Used variables are: regional real gross domestic product per inhabitants, private household income, employment rate, unemployment rate, labour productivity in terms of hours worked, patent per million labour force, employment in high and medium High tech manufacturing and indicators of educatedness. 78 European NUTS 2 regions represent 5 European countries (Czech Republic, Germany, Poland, Austria, Slovakia). The statistical techniques are based on multivariate generalized linear model and classification and regression trees. The contribution is considered to be a demonstration of statistical methods discussed and compared in the contribution.
