Abstract

El artículo trata de interpretar la construcción ambulavit querendum o ambulavit querendo que está documentada en el Itinerarium Antonini Placentini, obra de un autor anónimo del siglo VI. Dado que en la oración hay un complemento temporal que expresa duración, la interpretación final del gerundio resulta difícil. Esta opinión está corroborada también por el hecho de que el autor del manuscrito posterior corrigiera el acusativo querendum al ablativo querendo. La aproximación del ablativo del gerundio al participio de presente en el latín tardío aumenta el número de las interpretaciones posibles. El artículo enfoca en la posibilidad de que se trate de un predicativo o de una perífrasis en un estado inicial de la gramaticalización. A base de las informaciones contenidas en el texto no se puede llegar al resultado definitivo. Desde el punto de vista del contexto de otras obras tardolatinas es más probable que se trate de un predicativo.

Abstract (in Czech)

V příspěvku se zkoumají možné významy konstrukce ambulavit querendum / querendo, která je doložena v tzv. Itinerarium Antonini Placentini, díle anonymního autora ze 6. stol. Možnost, že by gerundium vyjadřovalo účel, se jeví kvůli přítomnosti časového určení vyjadřujícího trvání jako nepravděpodobná. Tento závěr podporuje také oprava na querendo v pozdějším rukopise. Sbližování ablativu gerundia s participiem prézentu zvyšuje počet možných interpretací. Článek se zabývá zejména otázkou, zda se jedná o predikativum nebo o perifrastickou konstrukci v počátečním stádiu gramatikalizace. Na základě údajů z textu nelze tuto otázku jednoznačně vyřešit. Vzhledem k velkému rozšíření predikativních participií v pozdně latinských textech a vzhledem k ojedinělosti případu je pravděpodobnější, že se jedná o predikativum.

Abstract (in English)

The submitted article examines possible interpretations of the construction ambulavit querendum / ambulavit querendo, to be found in the so called Itinerarium Antonini Placentini from the 6th century. The interpretation of the gerund as means of expressing purpose does not seem probable because of the existence of temporal durative complement. This supposition is supported by the fact that the author of the later manuscript used ablative instead of the original accusative. Another question handled in the paper is whether ambulavit is a full verb followed by a predicativum or whether it can be a periphrasis at an early stage of grammaticalization. However, on the basis of the textual evidence we cannot give a straightforward answer to the above stated question. In view of the comparison with other Late Latin texts and the frequent use of predicative participles, I consider it more probable that querendo is a predicativum.
