Abstract

The illustrated xylograph Icons Worthwhile to See (Five Hundred of Gods of Narthang) has been preserved in just a few copies and they are found in museums. The book was published in full extent just once as a black and white reproduction of xylographs and once as a colored reproduction of manually colored pictures. Naprstek Museum bought altogether six sheets of this collection in 1987. This fragment is in a perfect condition, sheets are undamaged and in the original state. By the juxtaposition of the first and second folio of the Prague fragment with the reproduction in Tachikawas publication we can ascertain such an agreement that we can speak of identical copies and we may make a preliminary conclusion that they were printed from one and the same matrix. Only after the comparison of the paper used we may judge whether the Prague fragment and Hamburg xylograph come from the same or at least close period of time. The other preserved samples should be treated in the same way.

Abstract (in Czech)

Ilustrovaný xylograf Pět set božstev Narthangu se dochoval pouze v několika výtiscích, doložené exempláře jsou v šesti světových muzeích, přičemž v plném rozsahu byla tato ikonografická kniha publikovaná pouze jedenkrát jako černobílá reprodukce xylografií a jedenkrát jako barevná reprodukce ručně kolorovaných obrázků. Náprstkovo museum v Praze získalo v roce 1987 celkem šest listů z tohoho rozsáhlého souboru. Tento fragment je v naprosto vynikajícm stavu, listy jsou nepoškozené a v původním stavu. Příspěvek se vedle deskripce jednotlivých listů též zabývá otázkou, zdali jsou matrice, ze ktrerých byla kniha tištěná identické či nikoliv. Předběžný závěr je, že tak nelze rozhodnout bez fyzického srovnání pražského fragmentu s jinými dochovanými kopiemi ve světových muzeích, nicméně srovnání s publikovanými zobrazeními u Tachikawy nasvědčuje tomu, že se jedná o identické matrice.
