The concept of destination management as a means of encouraging development of tourism in a destination has been known for many years however, there are still some destinations with little experience in this field. Not long ago the Czech Republic belonged to one of those inexperienced destinations. The situation has changed due to transformation process and adoption of destination management concept based on cooperation and coordination principals. Nevertheless, there are certain permanent obstacles that limit the efficient cooperation between stakeholders and disable to put the concept of destination management properly into practice. Concerning this, the aim of this paper is to describe the current situation in the Czech Republic. Moreover, the report is supported by a research that has been designed as a case study of South Moravian Region. The idea was to address stakeholders in key tourist resorts. Thus, the first step was to identify potential tourist resorts based on three major criteria the capacity of collective accommodation establishments, natural and cultural prerequisities and other tourist facilities (e.g. tourist information centres) that indicate the importance of a resort. The next step was to choose a convenient source of evidence. It was decided to use interviews that refer to the structured and open-ended questionnaires. The findings of the survey resulted in data that were able to achieve mainly two objectives. The first one included the investigation of intensity of cooperation between stakeholders that analysis into details three aspects the partners of cooperation, the main activities of cooperation and the evaluation of cooperation itself. The next objective was to identify according to the level of cooperation the stage of destination management in this region. Although the case study covers only a part of the Czech Republic the result of this research can be generalised because the conditions for building tourism organisation that applies the concept of destination management are similar.
