Abstract
In the present contribution the Egyptian word rmč "people" is analyzed as a compound "son/child/born of men". The etymology is illustrated by numerous examples of related roots in Cushitic, Berber and Chadic languages, and in Semitic languages from the point of view of semantic typology.

V tomto příspěvku analyzujeme egyptské slovo rmč "lidé" jako složeninu "syn/dítě/narozený z lidí". Etymologie je ilustrovaná na mnoha příkladech příbuzných kořenů z kušitských, berberských a čadských jazyků a v semitských jazyků z pohledu sémantické typologie.
