The paper deals with the influence of language teaching on the level of integration of foreign university students. It looks at the methodology of the course and the factors which influence its success. It emphasizes the necessity of needs analysis of the target group and the role of teaching and testing tools. Special attention is paid to the pros and cons of using the mediating language in teaching foreigners. The extent of students' integration, testing methods and overall success of the language teaching are presented at two courses of Czech language taking place at the Medical faculty of Masaryk University in Brno.
