Abstract

Velmi zobecněné vyjádření, že čeština slouží komunikačním potřebám české společnosti, nepostihuje jazykovou situaci, která je nejen proměnlivá v čase, ale i regionálně a sociálně. Kromě toho se v ní odrážejí i vnější dějiny teritoria, v němž čeština funguje, a změny komunikačních potřeb celé společnosti. Mezníkem v jejím vývoji mohou být např. významné historické události, ale jejich důsledky nejsou bezprostřední a nemusejí se v dlouhodobém horizontu projevit (např. vliv sovětské ruštiny. Pro potřeby popisu je lépe je hledat v dobách, kde je vnější situace společenství již stabilizovaná a kdy máme současně dostatek materiálu pro zhodnocení jazyka, a také ověřitelné poznatky o společnosti jeho nositelů. Posledním tako vým mezníkem by byl vývoj po r. 1989; pro úvahy o stabilizaci české jazykové situace dnes však chybí potřebný odstup.

Abstract (in English)

A very generalized statement that the Czech language serves the needs of communication within the Czech language community does not match the actual language situation which is variable not only in time, but also from regional and social viewpoints. Besides, the inner history of the particular territory is reflected in it as well as changes in communication needs of the language community. Historical events may be such milestones, but their impact is not immediate and may disappear in the longer time horizon (e.g. the influence of Russian from the Soviet period). For a description of the language situation it therefore seems to be more fruitful to focus on periods when the inner situation of the community is stable and when there is sufficient material for commentaries about the language and information about the community of its users. The most recent period could be the era after 1989, but there still is not the sufficient distance necessary for commentaries relating to the stabilization of the present-day Czech language situation.
