Abstract
The article presents results of research on Czech school headteachers and their professional careers. The research is based on a relatively new option, focusing on the analysis of headteachers` comments about authority in the context of the dynamics of their specific career stages. The text describes the circumstances of the choice and decision to accept the position of headteachers, followed by some key characteristics of the first stages of the career.
