Abstract

V originále

One adult syngamid nematode parasite couple was found during routine clinical observation from sputum of Pongo pygmaeus abelli and determined as Mammomonogamus laryngeus (Railiet, 1899). This finding confirmed previous record of syngamid nematodes, determined as Mammomonogamus sp. only Collet et al (1981) in faeces of orangutans kept in the Bohorok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre (Northern Sumatra, Indonesia) and presented a serious health hazard to rehabilitants in this locality. Detailed surveys on present and potential pathogens affecting health and survival of wild orangutans are necessary, to ensure species conservation and enable successful reintroduction.
