Abstract
Abstract (in English)
The present village of Starý Poddvorov lies in the fertile region of south-eastern Moravia, near the borders with Slovak Republic. Its position on the borders brought in the past many hardships during frequent war conflicts. Nevertheless, there has been evidence of Slavonic settlement as early as 9th century. The findings from grave excavations give also prove of settlement in 11th and 12th centuries. At that time there was probably already a village called Potvorovice in the territory of Nový Poddvorov. The first reference comes from 1220 and again from 1228, when it was mentioned as a property of Cistercian Monastery of Velehrad, which had been established short time before. The Cistercian village was probably colonized by German settlers. The village had a church and a garth, and with high probability also fortified with a wall, including a picket and a moat, which is still evident today but if was already empty in 1482. It was deserted either during the Hussite wars in the 20s and 30s or during the wars with Hungary at the end of 1450s.
