Abstract

„[Z]pět k softwaru v podobě kultury.“ Mathew Fuller Mathew Fuller „Abychom pochopili logiku nových médií, musíme se obrátit k počítačové vědě. Právě tam můžeme nalézt nové pojmy, kategorie a operace charakterizující média, jež se stala programovatelná. Od mediálních studií se přesouváme k něčemu, co lze označit jako softwarová studia – od teorie médií k teorii softwaru.“ Lev Manovich Přednáška bude věnována nové humanitní a uměnovědné disciplíně - softwarová studia – jako důsledku současné situace médií, která je teoretiky označována jako postmediální věk. Výzva k formování nové disciplíny - softwarových studií - přichází v okamžiku, kdy se praktické uplatnění IT v naší společnosti stalo všudypřítomné a metafory funkcí IT se rozšířily napříč kulturně společenským diskurzem, současně však absentuje kritická debata o IT, do které by se zapojili vývojáři IT, informatici, stejně jako jejich kreativní uživatelé (umělci, hackeři).

Abstract (in English)

The presentation was dedicated to introduction of new discipline – Software studies – which is presented as a result of the contemporary situation of media, by theoretician named post-media age. The Software studies is seen as a fruitful alternative to the traditional way of new media art history construction, which is based on media-centric narrative which stress oppositions between new and old media, as well as they represents the call for reviving the discussion on historical and wider cultural context of media art production. Within the presentation the special attention was given to the concept of “hackability” with was introduced within Software studies by Mathew Fuller.
