Anotace

V originále

Research of common pipistrelles, Pipistrellus pipistrellus, was carried out in the Hranická Chasm in 2008. It was focused on the overnight changes in activity during 17 monitored nights from April to November. Recordings of echolocation calls acquired by automatic ultrasound detection afforded the main data source. The bat-detector and DAT recorder were always situated on the same detecting point located below the top edge of the chasm and recordings usually proceeded continually over the night. The length of the night was limited by the time of sunset and sunrise. Each night was divided into eighths and the season of monitoring into five periods related to the reproductive cycle of bats. Relative activity defined as the number of minutes with the record of bat calls related to an hour of recording (min+/hour) reached the peak in July while it was the lowest in April. The highest level of the overnight activity was recorded around the midnight during most nights, but in the autumns nights the peak was already found in the 2nd or 3rd eighths of the night. Bat activity was positively correlated with air temperature especially at the beginning and the end of the season. Activity occasionally recorded during winter can show, that at least some individuals can hibernate in deep crevices of rock walls. Acoustic monitoring of bats suggests all the year round occurrence of pipistrelles in the study site but neither foraging nor mating was confirmed here.
