Příprava výstavy Moravská národní galerie (2011) byla příležitostí k novému pohledu na dějiny sbírek dnešní Moravské galerie v Brně v období před rokem 1961, kdy galerie vznikla. Článek představuje některé osobnosti a přibližuje události, které přispěly k postupnému osamostatnění obrazárny Františkova, později Moravského zemského muzea od jejího faktického založení v roce 1817. Upozorňuje, že o vzniku samostatné galerijní instituce v Brně se uvažovalo nejpozději již po roce 1900.

Organizing The National Gallery of Moravia exhibition (2011) provided an opportunity for a new look at the history of the collections in today’s Moravian Gallery in Brno from the period before 1961, when the gallery was founded. The article presents some of the leading figures and describes the circumstances that gradually contributed to attaining an independent status for the picture gallery of the Francis, and later Moravian, Museum from its actual foundation in 1817. It highlights the fact that ideas of establishing independent gallery institutions in Brno emerged as early as after the year 1900.
