Autoři reflektují výsledky vlastního kvantitativního výzkumu z oblasti environmentální výchovy a jejího vztahu k péči o zdraví a zamýšlejí se nad validitou některých položek použitého výzkumného nástroje. Z textu příspěvku vyplývá, že případné využití metod kvalitativního výzkumu mohlo přinést kvalitnější výsledky pro pregnantnější vymezení teorie, ze které jsou odvozovány výzkumné hypotézy. Jedná se o určité přehodnocení některých vlastních postupů, zejména při konstrukci proměnných. Příspěvek ukazuje, že hlubší pilotní analýza, která využívá některé metody kvalitativního výzkumu, může odhalit výzkumníkem nepředpokládané varianty proměnných, jež mohou být zásadní pro řešení výzkumných otázek. V tomto případě se nejedná o zvažování rovnocenné komplementarity kvalitativních a kvantitativních výzkumných postupů pro účely výše zmíněného výzkumu, ale pouze o zvažování vhodnosti aplikovat některé metody kvalitativního výzkumu pro účely výzkumu kvantitativního.

The authors review the results of their quantitative research in the field of environmental education and its relationship to health care and they consider the validity of some of the items in the applied research tool. The paper implies that the use of qualitative research methods might have produced results of higher quality for a more precise definition of theory, on which hypotheses are constructed. The authors rethink their own methods, particularly the formulation of variables. The paper shows that a in-depth pilot analysis employing qualitative research methods might reveal unexpected variants of variables, which can be crucial for solving the research question. In this text qualitative and quantitative research methods are not discussed as equal and complementary research methods for the purposes of the above mentioned research, it is rather a discussion about the relevance of the application of some qualitative research methods for the purposes of quantitative research.
