Abstract (in English)
This essay explores the interrelationships and interpellations between different representations of Spanish-peninsular identities, in connection with the theorization of the so-called origins of Spain, i. e., the Middle Ages. Its aim is to demonstrate the impact of ideological and political struggles in the invention of nationalistic myths and the decisive role of intellectuals in creating those cultural artifacts. The narrative focuses on Americo Castro (1885-1972).
