Abstract
The identification of new microRNAs (miRNAs), which is the foundation of miRNA research, led to the development of increasingly sophisticated computational prediction approaches of miRNA genes (and their targets) and experimental techniques enabling accurate and precise miRNA quantification. However, significant progress in the miRNA field, mainly in translational cancer research, requires the development of new, more quantitative methods for the rapid, and high-troughput multiplexed detection of all miRNAs that are present in a particular cell or tissue sample. In this chapter, we present an overview of the current state of the art for miRNA discovery and detection techniques.
